They didn’t give two shits about what taboos they might be bending, often going so far as to break those taboos altogether, like a bundle of sticks smashed over their respective knees. They wrote about violent serial killers. They wrote about rape and sexual violence. They wrote about cannibalism and necrophilia and incest. But none of it was supposed to be taken seriously. The despicable things that happened to the characters in these books were supposed to be taken with a pinch of salt. Moreso, they were supposed to be funny! “But rape isn’t funny!” I hear you cry. Well … get over it, bitch.
