You see, Rick wrote within a genre known as “splatterpunk”. It’s okay if you’ve never heard of it; not many people have. So–for the uninitiated–splatterpunk is, basically, a subgenre of horror, differentiated from other subgenres of horror by the vivid descriptions of gore and violence. Authors of the genre don’t give a fuck about offending their readers.

They didn’t give two shits about what taboos they might be bending, often going so far as to break those taboos altogether, like a bundle of sticks smashed over their respective knees. They wrote about violent serial killers. They wrote about rape and sexual violence. They wrote about cannibalism and necrophilia and incest. But none of it was supposed to be taken seriously. The despicable things that happened to the characters in these books were supposed to be taken with a pinch of salt. Moreso, they were supposed to be funny! “But rape isn’t funny!” I hear you cry. He browsed through HorrorWhore420’s other videos and found a common theme amongst them; she clearly hated splatterpunk. So why did she bother reading it? Why put herself through it? Every video on her channel seemed to be her criticising some extreme splatter book or another, and berating the authors for even having the audacity to write such filth. His wasn’t the only book she’d burned either! She’d even burned copies of The Slob and Woom and No One Rides For Free … Such a waste. At least he was in good company, he supposed.
