“Crazy about you. And ready to take you home.” “I’m finished if you are.”
“Can I touch you, Cam?” Every part of my body screamed yes. “I’m all yours, baby girl.”
“I want you,” I whispered. “Please. I need you.” “I want you more than anything in this whole world.”
“You’re spoiling me, sunshine.” I grinned. I loved the way he looked at me.
“I’m crazy about you,” he murmured, caressing my face. “More than I’ve ever been about anyone. I’ve never felt this way before.”
“I think all my plans are with you, Cam.”
Fuck, I wanted the whole world to know that she was mine. Mine. It was possessive. Maybe a little crazy. But now that I finally had her, I wasn’t going to just let her go.
Any problem of yours is a problem of mine.
“I—” I cut myself off, the words almost tumbling out of my mouth. I love you.
A fist came out of nowhere. I gasped as I took a step back. Cameron hopped up onto the bar top with ease and punched Andy again.
“Sunshine, I have to keep you safe,” he whispered. “You’re more important to me than you know. I can’t let anything happen to you. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.”
She was the woman of my dreams, and yet she was living a nightmare. A nightmare that I couldn’t stop.
Cameron’s voice cut through the darkness. “I…” He trailed off. My heart hammered faster with what I thought he was going to say.
Secretly, I’d wanted to hear him say I love you. I’d fallen for him, harder than I could have ever imagined. Eventually, I’d have the guts to tell him.
I closed my eyes, my head spinning. Why couldn’t I have one normal day? Just one. That’s all I wanted. No crazy brother-in-law or killer. I wanted no drama.
“Yes,” I whispered. “I want you to stay. I want you to be with me. I want to build a life with you, whatever that means for us. But you know what? Even if you left tomorrow, I’d pack up my bags and go with you, Hal.” “You want me,” she murmured.
“You’ve won me over, Cameron Harlow. I’ll move in with you.” My heart skipped a beat, excitement swelling through me despite how today had gone. “Really?” I asked. “Yes,” Haley whispered. “I’ll move in.”
“I knew the moment you told me about Cam this would happen. It was how you said his name. Something’s different. And now I have to move.”
I grinned. “So this means I have the perfect boyfriend, the perfect town, and the perfect best friend.”
I was in love with Haley.
It was moments like this that I knew I wanted to be with her forever.
“Have I told you how much of a badass you are?” I asked. Haley chuckled. “Well, when I want something, I get it.” “I see,” I said. “Haley…” Tell her you love her. Tell her now.
I closed my eyes, sending up a silent prayer. I love you, sunshine.
I hadn’t lost him. That was the most important thing.
Cam’s eyes were open. He turned his head and grinned when he saw me. “There’s my wife,” he said proudly.
“I love you. I love you so fucking much. I want to marry you. I want to make love to you.”
I love you more than anything else and I was a dumbass for not telling you sooner. I could have died without telling you.”
I didn’t fight the tears this time. “I love you too,” I whispered. “So much. So fucking much.”
Cam was in the living room, relaxing on the couch and waiting for me to join him for snuggles.
“I want you here. I want you here forever, Haley.”
“My life is with you,” he said. “Wherever we are. Wherever we end up. I’m in it forever, Hal. I’m yours.”
“I love you,” I whispered. “You’re going to be okay. You’re alive. You’re alive and…”
Tears slid down my face again. My eyes were tired from crying. I’d prayed. I’d begged. I’d sobbed.
I laid my head on the edge of the bed, looking up at her. My eyes started to close. I fought myself but could feel the exhaustion starting to take over. And then I felt her hand. And I heard her voice. “There’s my husband.”
He cupped my face, letting out a soft sob. “I thought I was going to lose you, sunshine.” “Never,” I croaked.
“I love you,” he said. “More than anything. Anything, sunshine. I thought I was going to lose you.”
Cam smirked, a glimmer of the man I knew under the exhaustion. “I’m charming. Won you over.” “I think it’s more like you fell in love with me.” “Baby, I’ve been in love with you since you came to Citrus Cove.”
With Cam, it was home.
“I’ve had this dress picked out since I’ve known you,” she laughed. Her smile softened. “He’s the one.” “He is. I love him so fucking much.” “I know. And he loves you even more. I’ve run my tests.”
“Hunter isn’t that bad, Emma, I swear. I like him a lot.”
“Hi, baby,” I whispered. “Hi,” he whispered. “I love you so much.” “I love you too.” “You’re supposed to wait until I’ve officiated,” Hunter teased. “Okay, well, hurry up and marry us so I can kiss my husband,” I said.
whittling in HB + CH encased in a heart. I blinked back tears, whispering under my breath. “I’m yours forever, Cam.” He kissed the top of my head, his hand cupping the back of my neck. “I’m yours too, sunshine.”
