Pouring the sweet-but-tart drink into both cups, Thea passed one over the counter to Mag’dremas, who settled into a barstool. She watched the succubus lift her glass to her nose for a whiff, then lower it to her lovely mouth. Her sip was tentative, a slow, luxurious pull and swallow, like she was sampling wine instead of store brand cranberry juice.
Mag’dremas was a hearthfire, her warmth melting Thea into careless comfortability.
Thea’s chest had never ached the way it did now. Her fingers twitched with the desire to hold her chest, to stop the fissures from spreading or catch all the pieces as they fell.
