“You’re right. I want you to pick something because I can tell that memory of you and your mom, it’s a good one. And I want to be a good one, too.”
“That’s it?” I cross my arms. “You folded just like that?” He shrugs. “Sure, if it will make you happy.” A smile breaks across my face unbidden. If it will make you happy.
Because fuck her if she thinks I’ll allow her to disappear with another man on her arm when she came here with me.
“You hear that, Lover Boy?” I pout, flicking my gaze to Enzo. “He thinks we’re kinky.” Enzo’s eyes spark. “He’s got no idea.”
“If I shouldn’t kill you…” He looks at me from the corner of his eye before staring back out at the water. “Then what should I do with you?”
“Actually, there is something I want to do,” he says. I shake the longing off and paste a smile onto my face. “Oh? What’s that?” “Well, we’re at the boardwalk.” He looks around. “Let’s make a memory.”
I follow suit and then crack a grin. “You look like a drowned rat.” She narrows her eyes and stomps off, and she’s so fucking cute, my stomach flips.
I take it from her begrudgingly, looking down at the powdered pieces. I don’t let the words fall from my lips—how I’m afraid I’m already a changed man just from knowing her.
She lifts a brow and pulls back slightly. “I’m surprised you saw me at all, to be honest.” “Baby, you walk into a room and every head turns. You think you can be anywhere I am and I won’t notice?”
“You shouldn’t chain yourself to anybody, least of all me.” “Fuck that. I lived a lie for an entire year, and that bitch manipulated me every step of the way.” I sit back on my heels and stare at Venesa. “But of course it was you. It’s always been you, hasn’t it?” I literally owe her my life.
