“You smell like old pennies.”
“Our V.P., Skeletor. Crusher, Dice Hex, Snapshot, Slash, Tombstone, and Testament.”
“How the fuck did you convince our whole fucking barracks from boot camp to join the club?” Maddog shrugged. “I’m a persuasive motherfucker.”
Manic’s grin widened. “Welcome to the club. You’re almost a Royal Bastard.” Maddog gripped my shoulder. “You ready?” “For?” “Your initiation.” Fuck. “What do I have to do?” “Take a ride into the desert. There’s someone I want you to meet.”
When it hatched, fucking hatched, I stumbled backward.
“You’re no longer two personalities now, Balen. Drake and his shadow warrior will combine with you and bond. You’ll merge and become the creature you were always meant to be.”
My dreams? A curvy redhead.
“That’s who I am, Blair—a guy who doesn’t like bullies or men preying on women. I’m a Marine. I’ve fought for my country, and I don’t take it well when the ones I swore to protect are fucked with.”
Creature was my dark knight, but I wasn’t a damsel in distress.
Lark, Maddog’s ol’ lady, and Bianca, Manic’s ol’ lady, were sweethearts. Beautiful too.
His bloodlust and need for carnage had freaked me out after I killed the man who murdered my mother.
I had been thirteen.
Let it all out, Blair. I’m your rock. I can take it.”
Balen “Creature” Hobbs was my hero.
“There was a time when the darkness closed in,” she whispered, “and it almost took me.”
Phyllis glared at me. Damn, that woman was spunky.
“Well, I received it,” she snapped. “And they can fuck off.” “Bravo,” Lark replied.
Tinman’s hand lifted in the air, and Creature high-fived him. “Did I ever tell you that you’re my favorite son?”
What was this? Musical Mobster?
