“Because I have unfinished business in this town.” He boldly grabs my glass of vodka and lime from my hand, his fingers brushing mine longer than necessary, burning me with his touch. His hazel brown eyes filled with an amused spark, looking at me from under his signature black snapback.
I watch how he casually wets his lips, then takes a sip of my drink. I should set boundaries, tell him he can’t do this anymore. He can’t treat me like I’m his for the taking, giving me this flirtatious look and igniting something in my body that I’d hidden away with so much effort. But instead, I let him, watching his Adam’s apple softly bob as he slugs the liquor down his throat.
“I want another shot.” He huffs, his voice all husky and needy, making goosebumps trickle down my body. My heart is screaming at his words, knowing I could easily fall back under his spell, but luckily my mind is controlling my mouth at this moment. “At what?” I ask, still incapable of looking into his hooded eyes. “Your heart.” “I have a boyfriend,” I screech incredulously, his comment making me glare at him.
“You can’t do this. You can’t just barge back into my life like that. Expecting everything to be all good.” I let out a sigh, pinching the bridge of my nose, hearing Julie snicker next to me, my jaw clenching at the sound of it. Thanks for the backup, girlfriend. “I know, but I’m fucking doing it, anyway.”
