Damn it all, I’m so obsessed with him.
When he sees me, he smiles. It’s my smile. I’ve never once seen him gift one to anyone else.
“If you wanted obedience, you should have gotten a dog.” I snort, and then hastily cover it with a cough. Carter helps me with the charade by lightly patting my back.
He laughs, like I knew he would. He’s like my own personal ray of sunshine.
This time, when I laugh, I curl upward to kiss him. I have no idea how I was able to survive so long without Zeke Cassidy. I think if he ever left me, I’d die.
I know what he means, though. I have a lot to say as well, although I’m pretty sure everything I want to say is eventually going to boil down to three words. I should probably feel more freaked out by that than I do; mostly, I just feel content.
The smile that graces his face when he steps back into the hallway and sees me waiting nearly sends me into cardiac arrest. My Carter, my smile. Mine, mine, mine.
He’s wearing the same thing he always wears—old, faded jeans, and a plain black shirt—but still my mouth feels dry and my stomach clenches at the sight of him. I don’t know how anyone could possibly be that cute and get away with it.
