“I can’t imagine you’ve danced properly, so I will lead.” “I can’t imagine you’ve ever led, so color me curious,” she snaps.
“Attractive, yet sour. It must be a family trait. Maybe I’ll dance with him next and compare which of you I dislike more.”
Finnian tsks. “I expected more from you, Elora. Is your only weapon that mouth of yours?” My lower stomach tightens. “The one you keep staring at?”
“I don’t want to scandalize our crowd,” she murmurs. I drag my knuckles across her jaw with a mischievous grin. “Oh, little doe, you don’t know the meaning of the word.” Leaning in, I whisper in her ear, “I know ways to make even the gods turn crimson.”
“It’s been dark here for so long that the light you brought with you broke through the need for ignorance.” I tilt my head and brush my fingertips across his jaw. “I’m sorry you felt unheard for so long, Finn. You sought oxygen while drowning, but there was no one there to provide it.” “Until you.”
“If there’s one promise I can make to you, Finnian Alexander, it’s this. The way you love me will never be too much. I will always be your anchor when you feel yourself sinking. I will always be the breath you need to take.”
