‘You brought a book.’ ‘Of course I did.’ His mouth tipped up in the corner, unable to resist the little smirk on her face. ‘Of course you did.’ ‘I always bring a book, just in case.’ ‘Just in case of what?’ ‘Just in case the person I wanted to see gets very busy doing his job and I have to wait to talk to him.’
He was summer and she was fall.
Hazel was getting lost-in-your-favorite-book good, sun-on-your-face good, the-perfect-cup-of–coffee good.
She hadn’t intended to do the most reckless thing of all. And she certainly hadn’t expected to fall in love.
Hazel wasn’t her job or her curls or her cute button-up blouses. She was the tart spark of blueberries on his tongue, she was salt air and rainy days, she was the perfect book. She was kisses and secret smiles. She was everything. He just needed her.
It was... Unfathomable. Unbelievable. Unexpected.
