“You’re alone on Thanksgiving, I’m alone on Thanksgiving. So we’re having Thanksgiving together.”
“Why aren’t you with Mace and Stella or something?” I asked after a his-generation part of the crew who also lived in Phoenix. “Because I’m here with you.” “Did they ask?” “Yes. But I’m here with you.”
“So you’re saying you don’t feel the need to unbutton your pants.” His expression changed, I felt it in my nipples, and his voice flowed over me like velvet when he replied, “Not yet.”
“I don’t know what to do.” I lifted my hands at my sides. “I feel like I should give you a hug or something.” “I’d take a hug,” he said quietly, watching me closely.
“I just talked to you,” he whispered into the top of my hair.
“No. Sorry. You’re a big boy. You don’t have to do that. I’m sure you’ll get home just fine.” “I don’t have your number.” “Seriously, it’s okay if you—” “Jessica, give me your number.”
“In my line of business, you make a point to remember important things.”
“It’s really cool you came, but you don’t have to be here,” I said into his skin. “Something else you should know about Jack and Rose.” I tensed at this intro, but prompted, “What?” when he said no more. “Jack did the right thing. Not because he was a guy, and she was a woman. But because he cared about her, and he gave everything just for a shot that she’d make it out alive.”
“This mean I’m finally out of your friend zone?” “I thought I was in your friend zone,” I whispered. “I’m a good guy, honey, but I don’t pull out my mom’s recipe for mushroom sage stuffing for a woman I consider a friend.”
“Are you…gonna…kiss me?” I pushed out. “Oh no,” he murmured. “You put me through two months of not clueing in, now you wait for the good stuff.” What? It had been two days. “Two months?” “Jess, I’ve been waiting for an in from you since you made me your dragon fruit refresher. Which, I’ll confirm, is better than Starbucks.”
“You’re my friend’s girlfriend’s girlfriend. Staring at your ass and showing up at your place of business for lunch nearly every fuckin’ day made my point. I couldn’t come on stronger than that. You had to clue in and make your move.”
He came out with his garage remote and a key. As he was putting both in my hand, he whirled me, pressed me into the car, pressed himself into me, and he laid a hot, wet one on me. I was surfacing from this (with some difficulty) when he said, “Now, you can let me go.”
“Sucks,” he muttered. “I wanna take this further. But what I wanna do to you is gonna take time, I’m hungry, and I don’t want the pastitsio to burn.”
His voice was a rough, sleepy, sexy purr when he asked, “Where you goin’?” “Go back to sleep,” I whispered. He pulled my nightie up at the back and then went into my panties with both hands, pressing me forward so my pelvis was tight to his. Or more aptly, I was pressed to his hard cock. “Where you goin’?” he repeated. “Nowhere,” I whispered.
The instant I caught his eyes, he whispered, “It’s not the nightie, Jessie. It was never the nightie. It was always the woman in the nightie.”
He pulled me just off his mouth before he ordered roughly, “Lose the nightie, Jessie.” I broke records ripping off my nightie. He kept bossing. “Now ride my mouth, honey.”
“Eric—” His name was shaky. “No.” He cut me off, then touched his lips to mine. “We’re not gonna analyze it. It’s there. We both know it. We both felt it.” He dipped close. “And I’ll dominate you all you want, honey, because I get off on that too.”
“This much more south, Savannah. She’s it. She’s the one I’ve been waiting for. She’s the one I would have left you for if I was still with you when I met her.”
“You shouldn’t struggle with it,” I told him. “We didn’t meet while you two were together.” “I know that, honey. But even if we did, I also know I’d end it with her so I could have you.”
“We’re not there yet,” he said softly. “No,” I agreed. “When we get there, I won’t care what you wear. But you look amazing in black.”
“Jeff’s jealous,” I told him. “He can get his own cat.” “He’s plotting on stealing mine.” “Then maybe you should tell him I own a gun.”
“Don’t ever again tell me you’re not special,” he said as reply.
“That’s not the point,” Ava returned. “What’s the point?” Luke shot back. “Your daughter shouldn’t be allowed to dictate every proceeding she’s a part of,” Ava retorted. “Why not?” Luke asked.
“She’ll be impossible to everyone but us. Works for me.”
“Will I do?” I asked after I tore my eyes off my hot guy in his suit. “I’d marry you in that dress.”
“Merry Christmas, baby.” “Best one I’ve had for thirty years.”
