No, this cannot happen, I tell myself. I cannot be attracted to her. I cannot fall for her. I absolutely cannot. But when her lips lift into a smile meant just for me, I know it’s already happening.

She’s the first person I want to tell anything, and the last voice I want to hear every night. I feel like part of me is missing whenever we’re apart. She’s my best friend, and I’m madly in love with her.

I’ll never like the way it happened, the time I missed out on with my son, but all of this brought me to Sadie. She’s my safe place and the love of my life.
