“Thank you,” she whispers. Overcome with emotion myself, I just nod and reach out to hug her. As I do, I feel her take a deep breath and relax into me, and something almost as fierce as when I saw Caleb for the first time happens inside of me. I don’t know her well at all, but I want to take care of her. I want to protect her from pain and to be someone she can turn to. I want to trust her and for her to trust me in return.
“You look hot as hell in my jersey, Chapman.” I flush. “You like it?” I ask, my voice husky. “I fucking love it.”
“Sadie?” I whisper. She blinks up at me. “I don’t just want one night with you. This isn’t just sex for me. You’re my best friend. I love the life we’ve created together. I’m falling in love with you,”
“And I couldn’t believe it when Weston told me Romeo Knight would be there tonight.” “I know.” I fan my face. “I’m already nervous about going, but knowing he’s in the suite with us—eek! Did you see his fight against Leo Burns? It was epic.”
“You’re here? Sadie.” He sniffs. “God, I’m turning into fucking mush and I’m not even mad about it,” he says. “I have such mad love for you, Chapman.” “I love you, Shaw. More than I can even say.”
