“God exists since mathematics is consistent, and the devil exists since its consistency cannot be proved.”
The physical and biological laws of our universe and the phenomena to which they give rise do not provide meaningful evidence either for or against the proposition that God exists.
In a world where language is evolving faster than Darwin could feed a banana to his uncle, I’m confident that by now the word probability has numerous additional applications.
A statistical frequency of an event, when known, is adopted by a rational person as a probability, as opposed to being defined as a probability,
First, it is important to understand that the fundamental value of probability theory lies in its capability to provide the basis for representing uncertainties in mathematical form.
P(G|E) means the probability that G is true after the new evidence is accounted for.
P(E|G) represents the probability that the evidence E would have been produced if G were true.
After all, recall that the value of probability theory lies in its ability to aid the making of decisions under uncertainty, and uncertainty is surely an attribute of the perceiver; that is, uncertainty must have a strong subjective element.
Suffice to say for now that God must surely influence events in our personal lives if he is the person-God of religious belief. The evidence of such influence is therefore legitimate for us to consider in addressing the truth of Proposition G.
Thus we are constructing a sort of scale that does for God-related evidence what Richter did for earthquakes and Fujita did for tornadoes. Our evidence scale is shown in Table D.
