Her little hands frame my face, and she smiles. “I wanted you to be my daddy too.”
“The drama is what keeps it real, though. Life is filled with ups and downs. It’s the pain that allows us to feel the good parts.
Because my father is the one who killed Ellie’s parents, and I helped cover it up.
“I’ve lost a lot of people in my life, and God, I pray I never lose you.” “You never will.”
He knew. He fucking knew what happened, and all this time, he’s kept this from me.
And I cry for myself and everything I’d lost. For what I am still going to lose when I walk out of this room.
Please don’t fucking leave me. I love you and will spend the rest of my life proving that to you. Please, say you won’t leave me.”
“You had to know this was going to be the outcome.”
“Goodbye, Connor.”
“I love him too, but sometimes it’s not that simple.”
“You always forgave Daddy.” Her voice quivers. “I don’t know why you can’t forgive Connor.”
We’ve both been through hell, but when I’m with you, it’s like heaven.”
“I don’t want you to beg. I forgive you, Connor. I forgive all of you, and I think my parents would too.”
“I don’t deserve you.” I release a deep breath and nestle in closer. “I deserve you. Take me home.” “I’ll take you anywhere, as long as I’m beside you.”
