“‘Your wings won’t hold the weight of this ice,’” Andarna blatantly mocks him. “And yet yours miraculously carry the burden of your ego.”
“Pain isn’t a competition,” I assure him. “There’s always enough to go around.”
Relief pricks at my eyes, and my vision wobbles. “Do not dehydrate on my account,” he lectures.
“I would have killed anything and anyone in that moment to reach you. No exceptions. I would have channeled every ounce of power beneath my feet without hesitation if it would have landed me at your side.”
“I am yours and you are mine, and there’s no law or rule in this world or the next that will change that.”
“I’m either completely in love with your boyfriend or utterly terrified of him,” Ridoc says under his breath. “Not sure at the moment.”

“I am in love with him.” I bristle. “I haven’t so much as thought about you in years. Don’t chase just because you like a challenge. You’ll lose.”
“Sorry about that,” Xaden says, his tone implying otherwise. “I was blocking a potentially lethal blow to the first-year and seem to have knocked the wind right out of you.” I arch an eyebrow and slowly look over my shoulder at him. “Seriously?” “He was going to touch you.” The glacial rage in his eyes has mine widening. “Right, because that’s the mature response.”

I lift his hand and press a kiss to the center of his callused palm before putting it back above my heart and holding it there. “This will only ever be yours. You could leave me or even meet Malek, and it still would be. I’ve made my peace with knowing there’s no getting over you.”
He fucking smirks, and I debate going back to the throwing-daggers-at-his-head stage of our relationship.
“Don’t mind them.” Ridoc’s tone sings. “They’re back to doing…whatever it is they do when they ignore everyone around them and pretend they’re the only people in existence.”
“My human,” Tairn warns, swinging his tail.
“You are magic,” the female says, a note of sadness in her tone. “And yet all you seek to use it for is violence.” “You preach peace while only having known its privilege,” Andarna hisses in retort. “You are all a disappointment to me.”
You do realize we’re about to cross the walkway of death. Well, then it might be a short friendship, but we’ll make it a good one.
