“Are you watching, Mom?” I mutter the question quietly and lift my left hand to the mouthpiece on my helmet and kiss the rose tattoo inked between my thumb and pointer finger. “This one’s for you. Happy birthday.”
I just caught him checking me out and he looks at me like I’m the one that should be embarrassed.
“Sounds like you were keeping tabs on me tonight. I’m flattered.”
I just asked if you wanted to go for a ride on my bike, not my dick.
Miss Priss (I mean, Miss Olympic Priss)
“She’s one hundred percent right, too. Your ego really is twice as big as your dick.”
“You want to play nice?” No, baby. I want to play dirty. Naked and really dirty. “For today anyway.”
If I don’t look at him, I can’t be annoyed at how hot he is. Jerks shouldn’t be allowed to be hot.
“If you want to see me naked, all you gotta do is ask, princess.” “Skinny guys don’t really do it for me.” She turns on her heel. The fuck? I toss my shirt to the side. “I’m not skinny. I’m lean.”
Sixty minutes and all I’ve learned is that Avery likes super muscular dudes and is surprisingly good with little kids.
Black athletic pants, black shirt, black shoes. Black heart, probably. But damn is he good-looking.
As we follow them out, Knox whispers, “You didn’t tell me the Ken doll would be here.” “You didn’t ask.”
Knox slips his arm around the back of my chair, resting along my bare shoulders. I glance over at him. He flicks his gaze up quickly, almost disinterested, but then his knee knocks against mine under the table.
“What can I say, I like to be the one giving orders.” Knox’s eyes darken with a playful glint.
“I’ll give you twenty bucks if you let me drive her around.” “I wouldn’t let you lay a finger on her for twenty bucks.” “The bike or the girl?” He smirks and lets his gaze slide over to me. Knox gets off the bike and holds out a hand to me. “Either, but especially not the girl.”
“You look stunning.” He brushes a blonde strand out of my face and tucks it behind my ear,
“Your boy is good, and he wouldn’t have brought you here if he thought he’d lose.”
“You did win.” I shrug. “And you’re in charge tonight, remember? So whatever you want.” “That’s a dangerous thing to say to me, princess.” He lowers his voice. “I’d have you bent over my bike so fast you wouldn’t know which way was up.”
The seconds tick by and he still doesn’t move until I add, “Kiss me, Knox.” He makes a tsking sound and his head lowers. “You just can’t help but boss me around, can you?”
“Luckily, what we want right now is the same.” His lips take mine. Hard and controlling from the moment they touch me. I open immediately and his tongue sweeps in, stroking mine. A person could get lost in Knox’s kisses. I do. I never want to stop.
I’m not going to turn into a clingy stalker. You’re hot, but you’re not that hot.”
“Excuse me for a minute,” Knox says, gripping me by the waist before he steps away.
“You had so many girls hitting on you tonight, it was an easy mistake to make.” “Why weren’t you one of them?”
She shakes her head. “I was jealous.” “You didn’t need to be. The only person I was interested in leaving with was you.”
“Why’d you run away instead of telling me all this at the bar? Hoping I’d chase you?” “No. I promise I did not expect you to show up here.” “Good. I don’t chase.” “But here you are anyway.”
“Hot boy got your tongue?”
“Is everything you own pink?” He holds up the offending bra. “You’re one to talk, mister all black and sexy.”
“This is one of your bikes? I can’t believe Knox Holland owns something with pink on it.” “I don’t. You do.” She turns to face me, brows furrowing. “I bought it for you,” I say, then shift uncomfortably because she looks stunned.
Knox. Unexpectedly sweet, loyal, beyond stubborn, and the most selfless person I’ve ever met.
“Have you bent over my bike so fast you wouldn’t know which way was up,” he finishes. Turning, I lean back against the cool leather and hold up the condom I stole from his nightstand. “Is that still what you want?”
His truck is blocking us from view of the road, but if his brothers came home or anyone walked up, they’d see me naked from the waist down and ass up in the air.
“It’s nothing. It’s just the way you said ‘I trained with her before the Olympics’ like that’s a totally normal thing.”
He glances in my direction as I get to the last fence that separates us. He does an actual double take and then a wide grin splits his face.
“Okay. Good luck.” He shakes his head as he walks off. “Don’t need it now that you’re here.”
I don’t know when it happened, but at some point, I started picturing her in all kinds of scenarios I never gave much thought to before.
“Don’t pretend you’re sad to have me out of your gym, princess. You’ve been counting the days since I showed up.” “Maybe before, but not now. It’s the best part of every day.”
“I know we’re supposed to be just hanging out, but I like you a lot. We’re having so much fun and I don’t want that to end.”
I fell hard for him. Rough-edged and prickly Knox Holland has my heart, even if he’s tried to pass it back to me daily.
I suck in a deep breath and stare into his beautiful hazel eyes. “Because I’m in love with you, Knox.”
“But it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t feel the same way,” Jane says. “He does.” Brogan waves a hand at me, still looking irritated. “Look at him. He’s got that same miserable look on his face as Henny had when he was pretending not to be into Jane.”
“Of course I fucking love her,” I say a little louder than intended.
“So, you don’t love me?” “No, I do. It’s…Dammit. I’m fucking this up. I had a whole speech.”
“It’s been a long time since I’ve let anyone in, but you didn’t give me any choice. You pushed and pried your way in just by being you, and I was a goner.
