“Life is a game, Adrian.” I maintain an unwavering gaze. “And we’re simply playing our part.” His eyes flick back and forth between mine before he raises his glass in a silent toast. “May the best player win.” “May the best player win.”
From the smattering of freckles dusting her nose to the soft flush on her neck down to her chest, she’s painfully beautiful. The only kind of agony I’d endure for life.
Whatever pushed her to kill DeMarco had better be worth it. Because she’s five steps to hell. The devil’s right behind her. And like fuck will I let her go through this alone.
She looks puzzled as I reach into the cabinet and pull out a hair diffuser, and I grin as I plug it in and gesture for her to sit down. “Let me handle this.” “Wait—you have a hair diffuser? And you actually know how to use it?” Aurelia raises a brow in disbelief. “Is that curling gel?” Her eyes round as she spots the pink bottle on the counter. “Of course,” I reply with a smirk. “I’m full of surprises.”
“Where are you taking me?” I manage to ask. “Where do you want to go?” “Nowhere. I want to stay right here.” “Then we’ll go nowhere together,” he murmurs. Nowhere together. I think I like the sound of that.
