I remember going back to the store to slice some smoked salmon that morning—and I sliced it really fast! And I also realized that when you’re catering a party in Westhampton, you need to know who the customer is. I never made that mistake again.
They thought our PB&J sandwiches were disgusting, so they insisted on making me their ultimate comfort food—cold beans (yes, right out of the Heinz 57 can!) on white toast with a Kraft single on top. I politely said, “Thanks, I’ll take this to my room,” and promptly filed it in the trash. I think that was the last time they offered to “cook” for me!
