I’ve said before that Jeffrey “brought me up,” as my parents had done such a dreadful job. They had made me feel worthless and belittled, and Jeffrey had given me confidence and taught me how to be strong in the world. I was so grateful to him for that. But there was the sense in our marriage that he was the parent, and I was the child.
