When Napoleon achieved significant successes in the war, in 1806, the British again became concerned that the French might occupy the Cape and use it as a base to attack British shipping in the Indian Ocean and again occupied the Cape. The Treaty of Paris was a peace treaty signed in 1814 between France and Britain.[185] The treaty ended the Napoleonic Wars and permanently ceded the Cape of Good Hope to the British.
