The French Revolutionary Wars (1792-1802) was a series of wars fought between France and a coalition of European powers.[182] The British were initially neutral in this war, but they became involved in 1793 after France declared war on Britain. On 16 May 1795, the Netherlands surrendered and became a vassal state of France, with the name Batavian Republic.
