Some actors take this as an affront, believing that once they reach a certain phase of their careers, they should never have to read again. I never saw it that way and still don’t. No matter who you are, you should read for a role, because maybe you’re not right for the material, or maybe the material is not right for you. It’s a pragmatic thing, not a personal one.
