“Hey, can Cal come over for like, an hour?” I asked leaning over the couch next to him. “Sure, you just need to be in bed at ten.” He said, not turning from the TV. “Okay Cal you can-“ I started. “I’m at your door, come open it.” She finished, hanging up her line. I shook my head and went to the door.
“I would never hurt you.” His eyes looked sincere, I stared at the fire between us. It was still calm, still controlled. “I don’t know…” I replied, “I’ve always been told not to play with fire.” He laughed, I didn’t.
“Why? Because everything is falling apart, nothing makes sense anymore and I feel like I’m wandering through a parallel universe that everyone has to keep secret from me.” My lip trembled and I cracked.
