“I told you the bad guys get the girl.” He grins and withdraws from me, lying down next to me and pulling my body in tightly against his chest.

“Shadows are nothing but the aura of the gods they once were. They can flow within and out of you at their will. Once you enter the nether levels of unity, you will be able to control their dispersal as I do.”
“Gods, I fucking missed you,” he whispers as his fingers thread through my hair.
“Let’s put it to the test then. I’ll leave a note in one of your books, and if you forget me, maybe you’ll remember me when you find it. Even if it’s just for a moment.”

“You can have sex with anyone except a Shadow Mate. We are going to learn how to practice safe sex when you have an aggressive Shadow inside you.”
“No wonder Elias is so possessive of you. Your Shadow has quite the appetite,” he whispers in a deep, tempting voice. I bury my teeth into my bottom lip—his erection is pressed against my lower abdomen. “Elias might know how to please you, but I doubt those boys do. Tell me, are you satisfied?”
Elias accidentally blighted them, all of our friends, but I think I found a way to stop it. Our squad cannot lose another… Our hearts cannot bear it, especially Elias. He won’t recover from this. I just hope I’m not too late.
“Frederick killed Martin in cold blood during the Culling Assessment.”
His Shadow is a phoenix.

“The second exam has been decided. Blood Crowns.”
“The Empress herself and Cein decided. They want to push this group to their breaking points quickly. They’ve found the Novas, Elias. All the pieces of their board game are aligned and they’re ready to take the leap. They have no interest in training this group as they did the rest.” He pauses and I can hear him swallow. “There are only a few individuals that they have their eyes on this time.”
“It was punishment for my defiance when I was a student like you; a reminder of my actions.”
One that craves revenge because it feels better. It soothes that gaping and starved darkness that only desires for others to suffer as I have suffered.
One cast cannot get rid of me. In fact, let’s put it to the test, shall we? Sully says as it grins.
Raine levels me a look, not angry or jealous, but curious. I just smirk back at him. She’ll always choose me when it comes down to it.
I’ve never wanted to be so gentle yet brutal with someone in my entire life.
