Edgar’s at my side in the blink of an eye, his hand going straight through Raine’s chest. Time slows and the drops of blood that fly from the impact look like raindrops cascading around us. Raine doesn’t react to the impact. Perhaps he’s seen this fate a million times and has already felt what he does now. But my heart shatters in every conceivable way as he smirks at me one last time and slowly shuts those royal-blue eyes.
“He is gone, sweetheart.”
“I love you too, Raine. I should’ve told you.”
“His memories,” he says softly. “I will always have them. I’m the keeper of memories, after all. Anytime you find yourself losing pieces of him, I will show you. Again and again, if I need to.”
“You’ve just set the devil himself free.”
Her neck is weak. It takes only one swift jerk to snap it. She never even woke up. What a pleasant thing I’ve done for her.

I look down and find Terra’s beloved male. Raine. He looks asleep and peaceful. How cruel it would be if she were to see him again, dead, a tool for my liking. I smile widely and let the darkness take him. Raine’s eyes open slowly and the world will suffer for it.

The man behind him has gray hair streaked with dark strands of brown. His eyes are as evil as I remember, as auburn as my own. He wears Fernestia’s black cloak, a sun emblem at the center. And the motherfucker smiles at me the same way he would when he’d beat me. “Hello, son.”
