For those who enjoy walking the line between the Shadows
Novas are the elite Shadows—gods of the gods. Should you be near one during a moment of uncontrolled hysteria or intentional malice to mark you, you will be blighted. Cursed.”
“Blighted individuals don’t live long. Their powers are enhanced briefly, leeched from their Nova counterpart, but blighting is a death sentence no one has survived.”
“No—I most certainly did kill him. She reversed time and undid it.”
“But your sacrifice will not be in vain. The strong Shadows will learn and shine amidst the horror. Be brave. Face death boldly.”
“You are the sole source of my weariness. I can’t stop thinking about you. The way you bite your lower lip and suck in breaths when I’m too near. It drives me absolutely crazy.”
“Are you going to be a good girl this time?”
“I told you the bad guys get the girl.”
I’ll have to choose eventually—between what is right and him.
“No wonder Elias is so possessive of you. Your Shadow has quite the appetite,” he whispers in a deep, tempting voice. I bury my teeth into my bottom lip—his erection is pressed against my lower abdomen. “Elias might know how to please you, but I doubt those boys do. Tell me, are you satisfied?”
you’ll find it’s much harder to keep the fire burning inside yourself than to just let it simmer out,”
She’ll always choose me when it comes down to it.
I’ve never wanted to be so gentle yet brutal with someone in my entire life.
“Don’t try to fix me—some things are meant to be broken.” I
There will be worse things to distract you in the exam than me,”
Somehow I fucking doubt that. What is more distracting than your professor pushing you back on top of a desk in an empty classroom?
Elias might have to make room for another man in my life.
Students are in the hallway walking past the door as Arthur devours me,
Not to mention rebuilding my relationship with Finn, avoiding Edgar, and messing around with Elias and, apparently, Arthur.
The dark isn’t for pretty little things like you, babe.”
“I’m adept in the dark—you aren’t the first man to take me for a walk through it.”
Raine, Elias, Finn, Arthur. They’re already finding their chambers inside my heart, locking themselves in. I’m not sure there’s anything I can do to remove them.
Amser and Raine’s Shadow merge in our chests and it feels as if his blood has entered my veins. We’re never to be separated again.
Passion like ours makes everything around us insignificant.
It’s odd how quickly we adapt to change.
and I have so many other men in my life at the moment. But what’s one more? My Shadow doesn’t seem to care.
“I am in no need of comfort. The darkness holds me.”
Only we can see the hearts. Emerai cannot hide anything from time. We see all the moments of a Shadow's past, what they’ve taken and tried to discard.
“No secrets are as terrible as the ones we cannot speak.”
“I want you to remember me this way. As a nice guy, the one who wanted you to be safe and warm. Not the cold, cruel man you met in Barkovah. When you think of me I can only hope you’ll imagine the sky, the rush that I sent through your soul. That will be enough for me.”
“You’re more than the sky, Raine. You are the wind, the earth, the blood in my veins. I will never forget you.”
What could they possibly take from me? Guess. I’ll fucking wait.”
“You. And that’s something I cannot risk. Not ever. So hate me if you must, but you’ll be safe and you will be mine. I don’t need your affection in order to be happy. All I need is for you to still exist,”
“I’m going to give you five seconds to apologize.” A manic grin spreads across his lips.
“I hate the things you draw from me. The things you steal away,” he says into our feverish kisses. “You drive me into utter madness.”
This is how I imagine his true self is: feral and fucking hungry for humanity.
“Small things can be as venomous as they come.”
I don’t think there is anything she truly fears in this world. A disorder, surely.
“Terra, why do they fly?”
“They fly because their time is limited. Because their light is too pure for just the ground. They need to share their joy with the world around them while they can.”
“And why do they have to die?”
“Because they gave all they had to show us their light. They must rest—as we all do.”
I’ll catch you a thousand times if I have to.”
“This is goodbye, baby. I should have told you I loved you at least once—”
“His memories,” he says softly. “I will always have them. I’m the keeper of memories, after all. Anytime you find yourself losing pieces of him, I will show you. Again and again, if I need to.”
“Hello, son.”
