This book is dedicated to the wide-eyed child within, To the dreams we cherish, forever untamed. May these words rekindle the spark that once gleamed. I know they did for me.
“I saw you, aster, before your parents even walked this earth,” she whispers, her thumb tracing a path along my cheekbone. Dampness trails behind her thumbpad. “I saw you as I see you now, and I saw you when I’m gone.”
“I’ve lived many years and many lives, aster,“ she whispers, her hand gripping my shoulder. “But, you have been my greatest journey. You’ll always know where to find me if you need me.”
I arrived in a wooden basket, and now I’m being carried out of here in an even bigger one.
Helping me into the carriage, Fin whispers, “You know, for a Magic, you aren’t so scary.” “For a Knight,” I wheel my head to him. “You aren’t so pretentious.”
To wield the Light at any time is a risk, but to wield the Darkness is to declare war.
While I can’t argue that this world needs a bit of rearranging, I’m not about to let it be by those who wish to punish people for the acts of their ancestors.”
I’m reminded of the sick boy who needs me, the one who is like a little brother to me now. I’m even reminded of Fin, his kindness, compassion, and care, even if he can’t acknowledge his deep fear of what I am and what I’m capable of. I mourn the life I left behind, but this new life makes me feel something… I’ve never felt more alive.
“I see you’ve grown attached already, Elly.” His deep voice reverberates through me as his gaze swings back to me. “It’s nice to finally meet you, Reva.” The End… for now.
