There’s one thing controlling everything and anything in life, an emotion so strong, it can completely debilitate us. It overwhelms all our senses while we turn a blind eye to the toxicity surrounding us. Love.
He wanted to own me. And I let him–as long as I was able to own him too. He was mine and I was his. Being in a toxic relationship is pretty bad. Being in love with a psychopath is way worse. Love is dangerous. Trust is a weakness. Possession is a toxic game. The devil himself delved into my mind and whispered he was everything I ever needed, wanted, craved, and I listened.
Physically, he would never lay a finger on me, but mentally, he destroyed my soul. His twisted thoughts led to so much devastation, such unforgivable consequences. Did Tobias Mitchell care? No. Unless it involved me…nothing else mattered to him.
“You’re one of the assistants,” I state the obvious. “You’re working on the Ivy Dermot case too.” His dimples dent in deep as he grins again, and I nearly buckle at the knees. As he steps back, grabbing his bag and throwing it over his shoulder, his parting words reach my ears. “I am, but a pretty little thing like you can call me Tobias.”
“Good girl,” he breathes. “Be a good little doctor and stay quiet for me.”
“You’ve made a terrible mistake, Doctor, because I might need to keep you trapped in my basement while I fuck every bit of sense out of you.”
The sight of Tobias Mitchell on his knees for me has my toes curling–I wish I could take a picture of this moment and frame it. I’d look at it whenever I needed to get myself off once whatever this was between us ended.
“Sometimes, the most forbidden and taboo moments are the best,” he mumbles against my sensitive skin. “Wouldn’t you agree?”
“I’m tired, Aria. I wanted to give you the world, not destroy yours. Just...just do it.”
I’m fucking insatiable when it comes to pain, and I can’t help it. But I do love you.”
“Marry him. Go live your life and raise our kids. Make sure he makes you happier than I ever can, but just know, once I’m out, I’m coming for you.” He swipes a tear sliding down my cheek. “Will you?” “Yeah. I’ll wait forever if I need to, because you’re mine.”
