Men in my position do not attend day-to-day meetings, but other men in my position aren’t obsessed with their pixie-like employees.
My brother clears his throat. “So who are we stalking?” “My future wife.”
“Absolute torture.” His gray eyes meet mine. “It’s time for you to go inside.” “What if I don’t want to go inside?” I can’t help the small whine of my words. He gives me that same chilling smile. “It’s not safe out here. You never know who you’ll meet.”
She is captivating me with her clear green eyes, pulling me in like I’m a planet and she’s my sun. I’ll gladly spend my days orbiting around her. The only thing stopping me from owning her body is knowing that the second I break the kiss, she’ll flee. I need her to be tied to me, irrevocably mine. I’m not a patient man, but I’ll wait for her. Show her that we’re meant to be. That she’s the piece of my soul that’s missing and I’m the armor she desperately needs.
He doesn’t smile back, his gaze intense. “Say you’re mine.” I startle, and I’m surprised by just how much I want to say it. Even if it’s just to see his reaction. “I’m no one’s.” His grip tightens before letting me go. “We’ll see.”
“Fine. What did you do to piss her off?” “Refused to extend her visa.” His head snaps up. “Why the fuck would you do that?” “Because now I have the leverage to make her marry me. It’ll at least give the semblance she had a choice.” “Poor girl’s going to be pissed.” “Wife. My wife is going to be pissed at me.” I smirk, loving the way that sounds.
“Have you grown tired of living, Carter? I can fix that for you,” Damon asks him, his voice barely above a whisper, somehow making it worse.
“Listen to me. There isn’t a place where I am that you don’t belong beside me.”
“No one’s ever going to make you do anything you don’t want to do, Misty. Never again. I promise you that.”
“Then crawl to me. Show me how good you can be.” Every ounce of feminism evaporates from my mind. I’ll be a feminist tomorrow.
“Please tell me you just bought an airline so your wife will hang out with you?”
The sweet scent of smoke and cologne fills my nose milliseconds before Damon’s arm wraps possessively around my waist. His voice is a dark warning when he says, “Watch how you speak to my wife.”
The mic’s already on when I speak into it. “I want to thank you all for coming tonight. I appreciate your attention. Let me present to you Misty Everette, my wife.” Misty gasps, then glares at me, mouthing the words “I. Am. Going. To. Kill you.” She’s so fucking perfect. “Fuck, I love it when you’re all stabby. Feel free to try.”
“You are a tempting goddess whose sole purpose in life is to test me.”
He leans in, dropping his mouth to my ear. “What’s wrong?” “They’re all looking at us,” I whisper back. A low chuckle rumbles from his chest. “Let them.” “I don’t belong here.” He pulls back and cups the side of my neck, using his thumb to tilt my head up. “You belong with me.”
“Sometimes you need to be a wolf to rule over sheep.” I flatten my tongue over his nipple, twirling it before nipping gently with my teeth. I gaze up at him through my lashes, finally feeling safe again. “Be my wolf?” “Fuuuck, Misty,”
“My darkness matches your darkness. If you’re broken, then I am too,”
She’s everything this world hates and everything I want.
Damon pants against my neck, lips grazing the sensitive skin, and says, “I don’t fucking deserve you, but I’m going to make you happy that you love me every day for the rest of your life.”
