In fashioning poetry, a common beginner’s mistake is to emote instead of to evoke, to convey the writer’s emotion rather than to stimulate an emotion from the reader. One way to a reader’s emotion is to bring two words together that have not been together before. Therefore precision is achieved in poetry by the creation of a new grouping of words rather than by using each word for its exact meaning.
