Perimenopause is the phase that can start eight to ten years before menopause. Menopause simply means the end of your menstrual cycle for a continuous 12 months. Post menopause in when you have had no period for twelve months and hormone levels have reached their permanent low. This transition time is different for each woman but often lasts for several years.
During perimenopause, your ovaries begin producing less of the key hormones estrogen and progesterone, which regulate menstruation and impact so many other body systems. It’s the fluctuations and eventual decline of these hormones that trigger common symptoms like hot flashes, trouble sleeping, weight gain, and mood issues.
