The Lake of Lost Girls

“I just think it’s shitty that when a guy cheats, the first thing we all do is blame the other woman. But do you ever stop and wonder why that is?” Daisy sat up straighter. “Because a male-dominated society has conditioned us to view each other as the enemy.”

“There are a lot of dangling threads in this case. In all the cases, actually. There has to be a link. After all, each of the girls went to Southern State University at the same time. It’s not a big school. I’ve never been able to figure out why the authorities didn’t think the four missing women were connected. In such a small community, to have not one, not two, but four young women disappear, points to a predator. To think otherwise is not only ignorant, but stupid.”

It’s hard to know who wants you for you and not because of your connection to a tragedy. It’s disturbing how many people were drawn to trauma.

as a woman, simply existing made you vulnerable.

People are willfully blind if it’s something they don’t want to believe.

a man that can destroy things can just as easily destroy you. That’s all I’m saying.”

I had a hard time doing what was best for me. Needing to be loved above all others would be my downfall.

Lies were my family’s love language.
