The Order of Kim Il Sung, Korea’s highest honor, had been instituted in March 1972. The Central People’s Committee had decided that I should be the first recipient. When I gently declined, they tried to insist. At that point I rebuked them, rather sternly in fact. They got the message and left the Order unawarded for four years.
