I guess I thought I could fix him. I forgot to ask if he wanted to be fixed.

It eventually became clear to me that if longevity isn’t one of your priorities when you first get involved, you don’t look for things like compatibility, stability, substance, financial responsibility, mutual respect, and admiration from your potential partner, and you’re more likely to look for, as the Garth Brooks song goes, “Mr. Right for Mr. Right Now.”

she was too smart not to have learned from everything she’s been through.

I’ll choose “Pollyanna” over “bitter” any day of the week.
