“I’m not sure cute is the right word to describe my kitten,” he says, laughing with far too much glee for a man who found all of his favorite toys damaged this morning. “Fierce, perhaps. Beautiful, for sure.”
“If things go the way I hope they will, I intend to make Sierra my wife.”
I smile, realizing that I’m just as completely and utterly fucked as I’ve ever been when it comes to her. She doesn’t even need to say anything for me to follow her, and she has absolutely no idea how much power she holds over me.
“Bold of you to assume I’m capable of thinking straight when she’s near,”
“Sierra,” I warn. “There isn’t much that I won’t let slide when it comes to you, but there are lines you shouldn’t cross. Eat with him if you’d like, but you’re leaving with me after. I’ll drive you home myself.”
“Tell me, Kitten… why the fuck are you letting him touch you?”
“I’m ready to collect the favors you’ve all come to owe me throughout the years,” I say. “Every single one of them, at once.”
“I would like to marry your sister, and I will need all of your support to make it happen.”
“Kingston men don’t cheat,” I tell her, my grip tight. “There won’t be any need for discretion, Sierra. I won’t look at anyone but you, won’t touch anyone but you. For as long as you’re my wife, I’ll be loyal and faithful to you, and I expect the same in return.”
“Then I’ll wait a million years and a day, Kitten. I’ll wait forever if I need to, so long as you understand that you’re mine as much as I’m yours.”
“Fuck every goddamn misconception you insist on having, and listen to me. I will never, ever, cheat on you. I am yours, and yours only, Sierra, whether you like it or not.”
“I thought you said you wouldn’t return it until you got what you wanted?” He pulls me against him, both of us straightening. “I did. I got exactly what I wanted, Sierra. You.”
“Don’t ever, for even a single second, think I don’t care about you, Sierra. You’re always on my mind. Always.”
“It’s already yours. My heart has always been yours, Sierra. I am madly in love with you, and I have been for far longer than you could possibly imagine.”
“I love you, Xavier. I love every single part of you, including the parts you wish never saw the light of day. Every experience, every regret, made you who you are, and I wouldn’t change a thing about you. I love you just as you are, Xavier Kingston, and I always will.”
‘The way this story currently ends is fictional, but I want nothing more than to make it our reality. I know I don’t compare to the heroes you read about, but I will never stop trying to make your wildest dreams come true.’
You have to earn the right to be with someone every day, in little ways that show them you care, that you love them, that you still choose them, long after you say ‘I do’.
