“Really? How would you feel if Amandine had spent your anniversary with an ex she almost married?” The muscles in Gavin’s cheek flexed, and his grip around the bottle tightened. “You just proved my point,” Mark said and drank his beer. Silence stretched between them. “Shit,” Gavin bit out finally.
“There’s nothing wrong with civility, you know,” Gavin said. “Like standing me up on a special anniversary dinner without calling?” She raised her index finger. “I know. Family emergency, halfway across the country. Because Catherine needed you.” “I won’t argue with you in an elevator.” “Too bad. I don’t need Samantha to win this one,” she said sweetly. Craig coughed discreetly; Gavin shot her a dark glare.
“You just raised the stakes to the point where I’d lose more than I could afford.”
Tell her. Tell her how you feel. His throat froze. Whenever he’d expressed his feelings, one way or another he’d lost the person who’d inspired them. Even the mention of a proposal to Catherine had sent her running to another man. On the other hand, he’d never said a word about his intentions toward Amandine while they’d been dating…and here they were.
