“Je t’aime, chérie.”
“Je suis désolé, mon amour.
Everyone on campus knew that the only person to freak out the ever-steady Dastien Laurent was his mate.
“My life was totally normal until I met you, buddy.”
“Did you call me ‘buddy’?” he murmured as he brushed a kiss on my head.
I started to climb between the seats to get back in the front passenger side, but Dastien stopped me. “We’re still moving.” His deep voice rumbled with worry. “So? I’m a werewolf and pretty much unbreakable, even if Chris wrecks.” I brushed a kiss on his forehead and stepped over him into the front seat.
Seriously? The guy needed to calm down. I was fine. I would stay fine.
“I might not ever be fine again, but Tessa’s snarky as ever.”
He muttered something in French, but I poked him. “That sure sounds pretty, but I don’t understand a word of it.” “We’ll have to get you speaking French. It’s much easier to romance someone in a love language.”
“You were. When I first got here, everyone, especially the girls, thought I’d ruined their perfect Dastien.” “I’m not perfect.” He sighed. “I think you’ve built this up in your head and you’re not seeing yourself clearly. Or us clearly.”
“We’re mates. Two halves. They can’t separate us. I won’t let them.”
but I like being there for you. It makes me happy and keeps things interesting. I like that I can do things for you. Sharing my life with you is like the best Christmas present ever. Don’t doubt what we have.”
I love you, chérie.
Now, if only I could get you to make that noise when we’re alone.
This was good. This was the way friends were supposed to be. The way love was supposed to be. Happy.
“I love you, too.” Dastien’s eyes widened for a second before his dimples showed up.
