Joseph lifts the veil over my head and holds his pinky toward me. I laugh and hook my pinky with his. “Pinky promise?”
“The grim reaper himself couldn’t keep me from you.”
I birthed these children, which gives me that fucking right. Do we understand each other?” He nods, and I let go of his balls. He looks up at me from his knees. “I am so turned on right now.” He confesses, and that just pisses me off more. I throw my hands in the air and turn to walk out the door.
“It’s war, Adria,” I say softly. “The cartel is starting a war with us over
Jenny’s death and my actions at the church today.”
“I will not lose you, Joseph. If you must stay and fight this war, so do I.” She sniffs and pulls herself out of my arms. “This battle is ours, not just yours. I will stay and fight, even if it’s for you to lay your head on my shoulder. I will stand by your side through this, Joseph.”
“Then they will grow up knowing they were loved and cherished. That their parents fought for their freedom until their last breaths.” I cup her cheek. “Get yourself together, my queen. We have a meeting in a few hours to discuss our next move.” I raise my eyebrow at her. “You wanted to be in this fight? Well, you will
be standing by my side at the front then.” I kiss her head.
