Why are you doing this? What is your rallying cry? What is the heart that pumps life into all your studies and ministry dreams?
Therefore, for us to say that we are about the glory of God means that we are about God being seen for who he is.
An otherwise impressive theology degree is utterly unimpressive if your soul has shriveled in the course of study.
First, seek to make your seminary studies devotional. Pray for God’s help before class, before studying, before writing a paper or taking a test, and during all these activities. Continually consecrate your studies to Jesus and ask him to freshly meet you in them, keep your spiritual blood flowing, and keep you soft to his grace.
Your chief goal is to encounter God.
many imagine God as far too small. Even if you say the right words and articulate good doctrine, if you are not somehow unsettled by God’s mystery, somehow overcome by his greatness, it’s probably because you have domesticated him.
But remember, please, how incomparable he is. God is the one who is greater than that which can be fathomed. Just stretch your imagination. Go as far as you can, and then a little further. You’re still not even close.
That we have any picture of him—or any idea or any language—is a wonder.
The purpose of God’s revelation is not that we stand over it and observe, but that we be drawn in and enjoy him. The goal of revelation is fellowship.
