I never wanted to feel this way again, yet I can’t help myself as I pull her closer, one hand threading through her hair. “Damn it,” I groan, something akin to helplessness rushing through me. “Why do you fit against me so perfectly?” She giggles and wraps her arms around my neck, her perfume invading my senses.

“Yet somehow, your eyes keep me far more captivated than the starry skies above us ever could. I’m not sure I like how easily you’ve put me under your spell.”

“You make me feel entirely out of control, Raya. I swear this isn’t what I had in mind when I asked you to leave with me. I don’t want you to think there’s only one thing I’m after, but fuck, baby, I can’t tear myself away from you.”

“I suggest you end whatever it is you started before I find out who he is.” His gaze roams over my face, lingering on my lips for a moment, before returning to my eyes. “You’re mine, Raya Lewis. You just don’t know it yet.”

“I’ll agree to that, so long as we’re clear on one thing: you’re mine as much as I’m yours, and I do not share. You can hide our marriage as much as you want, but it doesn’t make it any less real.”

Dad grabs my hand and holds it tightly, hesitating for one beat, and then another, before he places my hand in Lexington’s, his own covering both of ours. “That’s one half of my heart you’re holding,” he tells Lex, his voice trembling. Lex nods solemnly and tightens his grip on my hand. “I’ll treat her with care, always.”

“Just studied,” I add, conveniently leaving out the part where all I studied was my husband’s body, in every room of our house. We played truth or dare as Lex showed me around, and both of our dares continuously became more outrageous. I wasn’t sure what it’d be like to be married, to be alone with Lex like that, but I enjoyed every second of it.

“You terrify me, Raya,” I whisper without thinking. Confusion crosses her eyes, and she cups my face. “Why?” Because you’re the kind of woman I could lose my heart to when I didn’t think I’d ever dare do something so foolish again. Because you’ve enchanted me in a matter of days.

“I’m a Windsor, Akshay,” Raya says, and a thrill runs down my spine. I’ve often reminded her that she’s my wife, but this is the first time I’ve heard her referring to herself this way. “I’m not someone you can touch without incurring the wrath of a dozen people you can’t afford to offend, least of all my husband. Truthfully, though, I’d love to see you try.” She grins then. “Try it, Akshay. Take those articles of yours to the press. Let’s see which of my family members gets to you first.”

Lex walks up to me and places his index finger under my chin, making me face him. “I won’t ever let you go, little fairy. I may not be worthy, and I may not be the person you want, but I’m yours, Raya Windsor. I’ll be yours until the day I die, and not even you can change that.”
