Noah’s anger makes me instantly regret losing my cool with Maya. No one messes with his wife. Not even me.
Screw this mission to hell and back. Would he think I’m weird if I ask him if I can record him saying my name a couple of times? For mindfulness meditation activities, obviously.
The way Santiago laughs, loose and rough, has Maya and Noah looking at us with wide eyes. Something about their reaction tells me Santiago doesn’t laugh that way often. Can I make him do it again? I’ve always dreamed of having a superpower.
I want to ignore the possessiveness of his nickname for me.
God. She’s gorgeous. She probably gets away with a ton of illegal shit because her beauty has the power to distract a man.
I look down at the bouquet. The wildflowers remind me of her, beautiful in an untamed and understated kind of way. I grip them harder, forcing some stems to snap by accident.
It’s disarming how much I like messing with her. I don’t even know who she really is, but I enjoy the way her cheeks flush from embarrassment.
I pinch her side, smiling when she laughs and pushes me away. I’m tempted to touch her again. I like the way her eyes light up and her skin flushes because of me.
Who knew a Spanish accent could sound this sexy?
“Next time you think I looked at you with disgust, remember that kiss. I’m not a unicorn because I’d much rather be a dragon in the story. They’re more badass anyway.”
Backing away, I shoot him a smile I hope expresses how that was the best kiss I’ve ever had in my life.
It’s not even the way she kissed me that has my brain going haywire. More like it’s everything that kiss meant to her and what she wanted to prove.
“Because those who see beauty in chaos also see flowers instead of weeds, and that’s a gift in a world like ours.”
Friendship? She’s got to be kidding me. I’m not about to get friend-zoned by a woman who kissed me like she might die without it. No way. Fuck that.
Personally, I don’t care if it takes you a minute or an hour to get up. All that matters is that you do.”
“Because your smile dropped after I spoke. I should be clearer. I’m impressing you through empanadas, tapas, and good wine.”
My heart goes into overdrive, racing in my chest. “Really?”
He winks. I blush. The cycle repe...

“Because some people in life are worth the extra effort.”
Chloe Carter has me hooked, and I can’t exactly say I’m sorry about it.
No matter how many times I warn myself about Santiago, I can’t help the draw I have toward him. This man is beyond likable, and I don’t know what to do about it.
This is the first time he’s initiated touching me without an audience, and I am not exactly opposed to it. Honestly, I want more of it. I’m tempted to cling onto him like a baby koala and make myself at home.
“Because I’d rather see you smile than cry.”
I reach out toward her, grazing her bottom lip with my thumb. Her smile drops as her eyes widen.
“I don’t need to know the old you.”
“And why is that?” My thumb moves toward her cheek, stroking the soft skin.

Some kisses stoke a passion. Some kisses heal the soul. Kissing Chloe is a combination of two—the sweetest medicine that leads to a lifelong addiction.
I kind of like how Chloe’s one of the few people to call me Santiago rather than Santi.
“There’s nowhere I’d rather be than here with you.”
Chloe goes wild from my comment. God. I love the way she laughs—like she might die from oxygen deprivation.
“Then tell me what else you wished for.”
“I wanted someone to appreciate my presence rather than destroy it.”
“Fine for now. But how do you know the wish came true?”
“Because I met you.”
Shit. How does her simple statement make my heart pound harde...

I want the real deal with her. The dates, the laughs, and the feeling she brings out of me time and time again.
She’s like the moon who shines bright despite the never-ending darkness. And she makes me want to wish that daylight never comes again.
I knew Santiago was sexy before, but I didn’t realize he was that sexy under his beard and long hair.
“Why do you do that?”
“Do what?”
“Make everything seem like ...

Home. A word like that out of her mouth shouldn’t make my skin heat with a welcome nervousness, but it does.
