Beliefs must be tested, and it is the individual’s responsibility to do so lest his natural gullibility lead him far from the truth. Unfortunately, humans are gullible, and we tend to like it that way. Testing beliefs requires a tremendous amount of time and effort. Yet, when the beliefs are not put to the test the results can be grave. Religious, political, economic, historical, and scientific beliefs when not subjected to a healthy dose of doubt can be adopted far too easily and can lead to horrendous consequences.
