Diversion may very well be the most formidable enemy of justified true belief. Man has always found ways to divert himself from thinking about the ultimate questions of life, death, meaning, and salvation. Even in the seventeenth century, Pascal commented on the use of gambling, hunting, and billiards for the distraction of humanity and the avoidance of thoughtful reflection.148 Pascal would likely turn in his grave were he to see the diversion machines that man has made for himself in present times.
