Kierkegaard’s blind faith undermines the very meaning of biblical faith by accenting a passion of the heart devoid of knowable truth about the real historical Jesus. Passions that remain unguided by knowledge can lead anywhere, not least of all into theological error. The spiritual life must never be reduced to capricious fits of passion no matter how sincere. Passion may bring us closer to God, but to which God, exactly, are we being brought closer?
