Insanity: God and the Theory of Knowledge

It has become à la mode to flaunt skepticism as one might flaunt the latest trends in fashion. Skepticism is touted like a title or an advanced degree tacked to one’s name. This grand and distinguished designation has become synonymous with such concepts as free-thinking, unconventional, intellectual, and informed-in-all-things-modern. Men who wear this new style are skeptical of institutions, religions, God, and moral absolutes. They are above such things; they are the new agnostics—the skeptics who need not be troubled with religious nonsense. Privileged with the uncommon knowledge that they must subject all things to distrust in order to put the “knower” in his place, they have embraced a fear of knowledge and have failed to doubt their own criteria for skepticism. They are skeptics, after all, and they will doubt every belief while failing to question whether they should doubt their own doubt and whether or not their own belief leads to anything more meaningful. These types of skeptics are not intellectually consistent. They are, rather, intellectually antagonistic and are not true skeptics. It is impossible that such men have ever thought through their position. They are more likely to have been fed their philosophical outlook by the media, by agenda-seeking professors, or by the clichés of the day. They eschew careful reflection.
