I set down my chopsticks. “You mean . . . you’ll be like me, and still have a long life ahead of you. Mortal isn’t the same thing as death.” “That’s one opinion.” “No need to be dramatic. You could have a long life, do something you’ve never done before, even make friends if you drop the scowl.”

Seriously wanted to shake Meera….you took 1000’s of years from his life..and you say this. I didn’t feel like this matched the princess that worried about her maid, and risked her life for the little girl in the market.

“No!” I clench my fists, stepping forward again. I’m going about this all wrong by trying to defend myself. What had I learned from watching Runa deal with court politics? These dragons have a civilization, honor, life. They won’t listen to me unless I show them respect. Quickly, I lower myself to my knees and bow with my forehead to the ground.

“I’m sorry.” I drop my hand from his arm. Cold reality settles into my bones. “I didn’t mean for this to happen. You’re right, it doesn’t matter what my intentions were. It’s not only the outcome that matters, it’s the choices that got me here. I was wrong.

Finally an apology, and some remorse!
