The ancient church and the Reformers embraced a much larger supernaturalism, affirming that God is revealed in all of creation in a general way and intensely revealed in salvation history (Israel and Jesus) and that this disclosure of himself continues in the church through the visible signs of his presence in worship, especially at bread and wine.
