The craziest thing happens. She laughs. Like an actual laugh. Sure, she’s laughing at the idea of working with me, but fuck, it’s a pretty sight. Might be the only time I get her to laugh around me, so I eat it up, watching how the corner of her eyes wrinkle, and her pink lips tip up in a cute smile. She’s pretty, that’s for damn sure. “I work alone.”
run my hands over my body. “I love my body,” I recite to my reflection. “I love my curves. Every dip, every roll, every stretch mark.” One day, I’ll believe it. I hope.
I love my friends, love them dearly, but they don’t see that when guys approach us, they don’t approach us, they approach them. I get a weak smile, a pity drink, and maybe a couple of words from the guy who was stuck with me.
I fix my hair, glancing at myself one last time before walking out the door. I barely take two steps before being hit with a hard chest of muscles. “Shit, I’m sorry.” I look up and blink. His hands grip my arm, keeping me in place. “Falling for me already,” Aiden teases, smirking down at me.
This house is where I learned that my body was not accepted, that my value as a human, as a woman was diminished because of my size, because of the way I look.
“I would give it all up if it meant I could have you.” My god, this man is breaking my heart. “You could never be a mistake.”
“I’ve been on my own for most of my life,” he continues. “I’ve never had a home or a family… but you’re starting to feel like the closest thing to it.”
