when my gaze met hers, it was like looking into the depths of the ocean. The same color as the sky when the sun disappeared behind the clouds and a storm brewed on the horizon.
every time I caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of my eye, my balance wavered. Those stolen glances were like magnets, pulling me toward him and away from my concentration.
Every inch of my skin seemed to come alive beneath his gentle caress, each tiny spark of electricity sending goose bumps rippling through my body.
I suddenly never wanted him to stop touching me, but I didn’t know how much longer I could handle being this close to him.
“Who did that to you?” His voice lacked every bit of his control.
When his gaze finally met mine again, it was like being plunged into the depths of the darkness that seemed to consume this city. The gravity of it threatened to swallow me whole.
I was too focused on the way Dacre’s gaze smoldered as if a fire would erupt at any moment.
I was the princess, and everyone treated me as if I were going to break at any moment. But Dacre didn’t.
“I have been starved, Nyra. Until you.”
I hadn’t even known her then, but I couldn’t stop the jealousy that raged through me at the thought of anyone else touching her.
“Drop that bow and get on your knees.” He ran his tongue over his bottom lip, and I almost fell to them at that one movement. “Then I want you to crawl to me and beg.”
With a simple look, he knew what he was doing to me.
His eyes were dark, almost black, with a glint of hunger that made me feel alive. They seemed to devour me, like two deep pools of obsidian that held a hint of fire within.
Tonight, I wasn’t a princess or anything else that I pretended to be. I was his. No matter what happens. I was his.
It was just him and me, and nothing else mattered.
